Case Analysis of One ITECH Power Supply for Various Tests

In the traditional sense, the power is equal to the product of the voltage and current. According to the market research, however, it is found that engineers often need to frequently use different power supplies to test different products, the whole process is troublesome and the equipment costs are high. The research, development and design testers are concerned about using one power supply to test different products in the laboratory and make control modes more flexible. The IT6900A series DC power supply launched by ITECH is designed to overcome the defects of the traditional power supply and can substitute various traditional power supplies to meet the test needs of different products in different industries and achieve high accuracy comparable to that of linear power supplies in tests.

Solution of One Power Supply for Various Tests

1. Wide-range Output

When the 50V/2A and 25V/4A power supplies are tested, two 100W power supplies with different specifications or one more expensive power supply of more than 50V/4A/200W will be required in the test. The cost is high, but the engineer cannot freely adjust the test state and the laboratory instruments cannot be flexibly configured.

In the test solution provided by ITECH, the wide-range design of the IT6900A series DC power supply is used to solve this problem. For the model of 100W, the voltage and current are respectively 60V and 5A. Firstly, set the voltage of the IT6900A power supply as 50V. In this case, the current will be automatically set as 2A, and the first power supply will be tested. Then set the voltage of the IT6900A power supply as 25V. In this case, the current will be automatically set as 4A, and the second power supply will be tested. According to the scheme, the test time and equipment cost can be minimized, and high reliability of test data can be ensured.

2. Intelligent Programming

The test steps of products of the automotive electronic field are relatively complex. For example, when a car speaker is tested, the engineer needs one programmable power supply. In the test, check the sound quality and other properties of the speaker respectively after 10min continuous power supply of 13V and 1,000 cycles of 1S, 13V ON and 4S OFF tests. When the power supply of ITECH is used in the test, a simple and quick method can be provided.

The customer can prepare a best test scheme, using the programming property of the IT6900A series wide-range DC power supply of ITECH and the supporting powerful software. Before the test, the IT6900A series power supply should be programmed according to the test requirements. Multiple programming modes can be selected according to the actual situation, such as programming in the panel of the power supply and programming in the computer based on remote communication through the built-in standard RS232/USB/GPIB interface. When the instructions programmed by the engineer are received by the power supply rapidly, the car speaker can be tested according to the preset program, and the current voltage and current data can be recorded in a real-time manner in the software and displayed and recorded on the software monitoring interface of the computer. As the IT6900A series DC power supply has rich SCPI instructions, the intelligent switching test platform can be easily established, which is particularly important to tests with secondary development requirements.

3. Ultra-low Ripple

For the DC-DC switching power supply, engineers are worried about significant deviations between test results and actual values, caused by superimposition of ripples generated by the testing instrument and tested equipment.

In this case, the IT6900A series DC power supply can be used. As the voltage and current ripple coefficients are respectively no more than 5mVp-p and 5mArms, engineers do not need to worry about the influence on the ripple characteristic property caused by ripple superimposition in the test. 

4. Surge Current Suppression and OCP Function

LED is a special electronic component. The LED product as the constant-current power supply is highly sensitive to the current. Most of power supplies will generate surge current at the moment of start-up, which may affect the tested object, especially highly sensitive products such as LED. Therefore, such power supplies are not applicable to tests of the above products.

The IT6900A series DC power supply of ITECH has the function of suppressing surge current at the moment of start-up and thus can be applied in the reliability test of LED related products.

The IT6900A series DC power supply of ITECH can effectively suppress surge current, as shown in the following figure.

In the left figure, the LED product is tested through the ordinary power supply. The current waveform obtained by the oscilloscope shows the apparent surge current. The right figure shows the current waveform obtained by testing the LED product through the IT6900A series DC power supply of ITECH, and the current is smooth with no surge at the moment of start-up. Therefore, when the IT6900A series DC power supply of ITECH is used in the reliability test of the LED product, the highly sensitive product can be protected.

As for the aging test, the LED product can be protected in the long-time aging process due to the OCP protection function of the IT6900A series DC power supply, to prevent inevitable burning caused by the abnormal current in the aging period. Once the current increases abnormally, the power supply will enter the OCP protection mode and stop the output.

Conclusion

The above cases are some applications of the IT6900A series DC power supply of ITECH. More test solutions can be provided through this power supply in related industrial tests. In addition, the IT6900A series DC power supply also has many advantages in the hardware and function design. For example, light can be emitted by functional keys to facilitate operations in the dark environment. Due to the standard size, this power supply can be easily installed on the cabinet.
